Safety of swimming with sharks in aquariums?

I would like to know how safe is it to swim with sharks in aquariums? Many aquariums offer this activity but what kind of protective equipment do people get when they enter the pool? I have seen a promotional video of Sydney aquarium and these sharks are not baby nor miniature sharks as I would have thought. Someone told me they take their teeth out but that doesn`t sound right either.

This activity would generally take place after the sharks have been fed. You would be outfitted in standard scuba gear. As a diver in a small to medium group, I'm told that you and your bubbles would be perceived as a singular ultra-large object by a shark--worth looking at, but nowhere near the first choice as a food source. BTW, sharks constantly lose teeth and get new ones in.

their carnivorous instincts are developed, then that means they are not safe unless you have supervision around


most sharks dont care for humans because they are fed with other meat


but it doesnt matter because they might behave differently
Reply:you will most likely be safe if you are in a big group because if you are then the sharks won't cause any trouble and also sharks are different with hunting instincts. Nursing Sharks won't attack while a Great White will but if you want to go swimming with sharks just make sure your in a group and also if its in an aquarium, the aquarium should have some control over these sharks and have them just a little bit tamed. But ive gone scuba diving and ran into sharks and they don't bother you unless you bother them like getting them into a corner

Reply:these sharks are probably domesticated so they are tamer than other sharks. it's probably safe. you should talk with the aquarium staff and see what they have to say
Reply:I am a diver at the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, I dive with various sharks Mon-Fri. Shark attacks usually happen when a person is mistaken for food for a couple of reasons- 1. They are on the surface. 2. They are wearing fins or on a boogie/surf board and 3. They sre swimming near a food source (school of fish, group of seals etc)


An aquarium will take many recautions before letting the public dive with the sharks so you have very little to worry about. Sharks are fun to dive with, the white tip reef sharks I dive with like to lay next to me wherever I work in the tank. The rest are scared of me or areso not interested. Enjoy it is worth every penny.
