Are braces worth it?

my teeth were REALLY messed up. my baby teeth wouldn't fall out which caused the adult teeth to push out over the baby teeth and grow out on the side of my gums. I looked like a shark with two rows of teeth. Haha. The orthodontist expects me to wear them for about 2-2 and a half years. The pain of getting them tightened doesn't even really bother me much, because the pain is SO much less than when i first got them on. I got them on september 11 so i have had them for almost three months. I hate cleaning them at school EVERYTIME after we get out of lunch. I'm really wanting them off, but i can't wait for straight teeth.

Completely! I know how you feel. I've had them for about a year now. Sometimes I'm not motivated enough to take diligent care of my braces and what not... and I just want them off... but then I think of how my sister went through it and now her teeth are amazing! Just keep taking care of them and wear your appliances whenever you are directed to, and your treatment will probably end faster. Good luck!

Reply:yeah they are.. ur teeth will be beautiful in the end. take it from me. i had the same problem u had, and it really helped my teeth. now my teeth are all straightened, and I'm getting mine off in about 2-4 months.
Reply:Yes. I had braces when I was 14 and wore them for a year. I know how much you hate to smile with them on, but once your orthodontist says it is time for them to come off, you will cry when you see how beautiful your teeth are, and you will want to smile ALL THE TIME. Braces not only straighten your teeth, when you look at an X-ray, you will see that the roots are straight just like your teeth. You will probably have to wear top and bottom retainers at night afterwards for a while to keep them in that position. I know it is a pain, but yes, it is very much worth the wait.


Just be sure to go for regular checkups on your wisdom teeth too. When my wisdom teeth grew in, they pushed on my regular teeth so hard that it screwed up my bite and I had to go back to my orthodontist for a new retainer.
Reply:Oh yes, they are absolutely worth it. I had braces for two and a half years. I got them off two months ago and I can't stop looking at my teeth in the mirror. Just remember after you get them off always wear your retainer or your teeth will go back the way they were before you had braces. I am actually wearing my retainer all the time unlike so many people.
Reply:Yes they are truly worth it, you will notice a change in just a few months of having them on and this will encourage you. Just try to swish well after lunch. You'll get through this and be so thankful when it's all over and you have that beautiful smile.

Reply:YES!!!! I got my braces on 2 years ago and got them off on Thursday... and wow!!!! I have a gorgeous smile!!!! Just hang in there, the end result is waaayyy worth it. Would you like to suffer cleaning your teeth every day for 2 years and have perfect teeth, or living the rest of you life with "shark teeth"? You can do it!

Reply:They are defiantly worth it for straighter teeth. I had mine on for just a year, it was terrible! Whenever I got them tightened they would ache so bad..and I'd get canker sores a lot!
Reply:Oh yes! I used to love my smile! Until, the orthodontist said I needed braces. Ever since then I haven't stopped looking in the mirror! Now I hate my smile! And can't wait to get it fixed!
