Reply:I think wallpaper would be best for something like this.=)
Reply:You can paint the wall blue 1st. For the underwater effect, use sponge to paint the white. To further enhance it, you can start to mix a little blue to your white to create many shades of blue and make it more realistic.

Try to get a picture of underwater from the internet and try to follow the patterns.
Reply:Paint huge slanted dark blue triangles on your wall. Paint the top portion light blue. Take a sponge for a foamy affect and with white paint on the sponge press it against the top slants of the triangles. That should look pretty cool.
Reply:To bring it to life, I believe you need an ocean 'floor' and 'surface'.

Ocean bottom have coral, seaweed, seahorses, crabs, lobster, fish, seashells, etc.. painted or from wallpaper or even glued material from a fabric shop, etc.. Whatever you find comfortable in creating.

Higher up on the wall have ocean surface with waves or even a small ship as if it is in the distance.
Reply:I like Carole Q's answer. But if you are just going for the water effect, you could start with a darker blue on the bottom, and 'wash' it to a lighter shade as you go up. I would also add a bit of green or teal blue in there, to give it a more realistic feel. If the transition from dark to light turns out to be too drastic, you could also do a soft white wash over the entire thing once you have completed. (Mix white or slightly tinted paint with water 1-3 parts mix.) If you sponge the white-wash over the top, it will feel kinda bubbly! This would also give it a misty, underwater feel.

What a fun project! And what a lucky daughter!! When I was a kid, my walls were white. :(
Reply:dont do a ocean floor mural! thats soo tacky! since shes a girl i would go with something toned down %26amp; cute....have u ever seen striped walls [like the yellow strips:http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_bedro...

instead of doing strips up %26amp; down do thick waves side to side! do a light blue %26amp; a darker gorgeous blue [you can go to home depot %26amp; mix ur own colors] %26amp; then do her bedding white so it can pop against the wall %26amp; make her bedroom feel FRESH like shes @ the ocean %26amp; put little stuffed shark animals on the bed...put up paintings of sharks...u know add little touches
