I know that many people have been asking this question, but are mermaids real?

I have heard of many people talking about them recently, and a friend traveled to a certain country where sightings of them are almost natural. She saw a couple of men holding some uncontrollable moving object from the sea, and when she came to look closer, she saw a mermaid. She described it like this: human top half, fishy bottom. The top human half was a female, who was very thin, and had sharp teeth, like a shark. She had long, flowing hair and elf-like ears. In this country's culture, it is believed that a mermaid mesmerizes a person with her eyes. I wasn't sure my friend was telling the truth, but after seeing a picture of the now-dead mermaid, I don't know what to believe. What do you think?

I know that many people have been asking this question, but are mermaids real?
P.T.Barnum, there's a sucker born every minute
Reply:The belief is that sailors used to see manatee's and believe they were mermaids.

Who knows, I believe it's possible.
Reply:Mermaids are not real.

Of course, you friend's sighting says it happened in "a certain country", which usually means the Republic of BS.
Reply:Yes, Mermaids are real. But they are not half woman and Half fish. The are animals and very ugly at that. There is nothing human about them.
Reply:there is no mermaids. dont you think that if there was mermaids fishermen would have caught one already or it would have been all over the news its not real.
Reply:Yes they are...if you go to the beach in Haiti at night you'll here a women at night(if your a man) calling to you. If you ever here that DON'T GO! Cause if you do then you'll be her slave forever. They are half womne and half fish. In Haiti we also eat them we call them Moi (mou-ee). Mermaids are real!
Reply:Negative.
Reply:no mermmaides aren't real in my opinion but there are always possibilites god can create life and new things every day if you believe in god that is and i do
Reply:Mermaids and mermen are real. They have been sighted at all times throughout history by all sea-faring peoples, described pretty much as your friend did. The oft-quoted nonsense that sailors mistook manatees or dugongs for lady-like animals is ridiculous, as all sailors are expert at noticing sea-life and identifying creatures, particularly fisherman, the class that most often reports mermaids. This also ignores significant historical instances in the Shetlands, Netherlands, etc., of large communities witnessing merpeople, complete with repected members like clergy and magistrates attesting in writing to that fact. Less than 50% of the life in the oceans has been categorized and described by science, including many large species. The merpeople may be a branch of homo sapiens who, much like dolphins but at a later date, returned to the seas. Some anthropologists claim we display traits of an aquatic period in our own evolution, such as lack of body hair and a downturned nose.
Reply:well all i know is that ive never seen
Reply:if u have seen the photo then it might be true,as there was aproof, there was a mermaid spotted in new zealand or some place or other.i think they r real,or not real.i think u can go to wikipedia and research it if ur intrested,so try ur best, even me too ,i gawed by this strory of yours have a pleasant time
Reply:Mermaids are not real. My Dad was in the navy for 22 years and sailed all over the world. Never once saw a Mermaid. After you are out to sea for so long, your eyes and your mind play tricks on you and you think you see what you want to see.
Reply:I believe in mermaids as a I believe in extraterrestrial. I really believe there are somewhere and i also believe that somewhere in deep waters , something devil is hiding. So i believe even if mermaids really exist are devil so i don't want and i don't care to meet them.
Reply:YES they are !!!! when I was on the beach rideing my unicorn 2 of them appeared out of the deep they started singing and brushing each others hair it was so cool
Reply:Yes, they exist.

Whats the funniest dog myth you've ever heard?

In my profession, I've heard some crazy ones. Here are mine, whats yours?

A friend of mine actually thought that in Mexico there are wild packs of chihuahuas that were able to bring down horses. He truly believed this. I laughed for hours...

When I first met my husband, we argrued for months over the fact that he had a friend who was a "breeder" of pit bulls. This guy had told him he bred a special bloodline of pitbulls who had two rows of teeth, like a shark. I have had other people tell me this as well.

Whats the funniest dog myth you've ever heard?
Ok well the funniest(or stupidest depending on how you look at it) myth I have ever heard about dogs went like this..

My friends boyfriend had a female (unspayed) pitty breed dog, my friend (who was his girlfriend) had a neutered male mutt hound/shepherd etc dog. The male even though he was neutered was obsessed with the female in heat and kept mounting and tying with her... we let them because obviously he was shooting blanks, but one day just joking I said "Wouldn't it be crazy if he actually knocked her up somehow, the pups would be very odd looking but cute" then the female dogs owner said "He better not because then she will be ruined and wont be able to have purebred pitty pups" I was dumbfounded for a minute then I asked what he meant.. he said (and believed what he said) that if a purebred had mutt puppies from a non-purebred dog, then if he bred her with a pure male the pups would be mutts because of the previous mating. I started laughing hysterically and he really had no idea what I was laughing about.. so I tried to explain that genetically what he was saying was impossible and ridiculous. Just because a dog has puppies with one dog doesnt mean that the next litter with a different dog will somehow be mutts because of it. He honestly believed that somehow all other pups would look like the father of the first litter... I tried and tried to explain that it was impossible and that it would in no way affect her future litters if she mated with a mutt once and had mixed pups. But he seriously believed that somehow that DNA would stay in his dog and make her future pups mutts... ridiculous, stupid, funny whatever you call it its completely ignorant and I couldnt stop laughing and arguing with him to no avail..
Reply:that dogs cant look up.

wonder if its true
Reply:Stupidest dog myth - that all pitt bulls are dangerous and their owners aren't at fault at all.

We have a running joke in my family that hummingbirds migrate on the backs of ducks...after all, have you ever seen a herd of migrating hummingbirds?
Reply:That my dog was unsmart,,when you say seat, he gonna lay down..When you say Bark he gonna cry..Isnt it funny, That's true..So i thought my japanese puddle was wierd! And My Dog w/c is a male Doesnt want the make love with female but i always i seeing him at the top of the male too.!
Reply:I think the best myth is that a dog MUST go into heat at least once before being fixed, by then you have risked puppies, behavioral issues that couldve been prevented and a messy house and unsavory suitors
Reply:(Yes dogs can look up - I have 2 hunting dogs that constantly look up for birds and squirrels. and my friends weimeriner follows airplanes while they are flying over head)

I heard this ridiculous bit about hot dogs curing dog intestinal worms! I know there's a lot of crap in hotdogs but COME ON! I think people are willing to believe just about anything.
Reply:Those are good ones. Thanks for the laugh!

Stupidest myth I heard was that once a dog is given raw meat, they crave blood so they will attack anyone at will. That one cracks me up!
Reply:Am I seriously the first person to mention the myth that poodle mixes (or any dog, for that matter) are hypo-allergenic?
Reply:That dobermans brains will grow so big their head will explode lol also that they will turn on u any tiime. ive had them for 10years and never had any problems.
Reply:I like the myth about ticks.....If you don't get the head out when you pull a tick off a dog, then the body of the tick will grow back! It is true though that you should get all of the tick out, but not because the body will grow back, but because it could cause an infection.
Reply:I have 4 pit bulls. The biggest myths I've heard so far were, "the jaws of a pit bull lock", and "the brain of a pit bull swells inside it's skull, which is why they 'turn' on their owners." I believe that one in particular was originally applied to Dobies. Funny how it completely "jumped" over to another breed. As far as the "locking jaws" myth, I've talked to several vets, and they all chuckle at that one too. Guess I'll add the one about them having "2 rows of teeth" to the list, too. lol. These backyard-fables crack me up, keep 'em coming! Idiots.
Reply:That there is 2 types of rottweilers. German and American. The FCI and AKC standards for this breed are nearly identical. The only real difference is that in Germany, as well as all of Europe, it is illegal to crop or dock, so a German rott will have a full tail.
Reply:Funniest, yet stupidest, what makes it funny is some people actually believe it..... Doberman Pinschers brains grows, but their skull doesn't so this causes brain damage!!!!! SOOOOOOOOOO ignorant the some actually believe that!!!
Reply:Someone told me dogs must not be fixed because they turn gay...
Reply:dogs wont eat chicken

the world record time for running the mile is just under four minutes. how might this record be different if humans had air sacs like birds do? explain your reasoning.

to help control a species of scale insect that feeds on orange trees, a scientist proposes introducing a parasitic wasp from australia. you are asked to help evaluate the proposal. what are some of the biological issues that you should consider before making your decision? what non-biological issues might you consider?

11.AIDS patients often succumb to infection or cancers that are rare in healthy individuals...true or false?...true, idk.

12.a person with type AB blooc can donate to a person with any blood type...true or false?

true?

More biology questions, please help!?
1. C

2. dont know

3. it would be longer because humans would be able to store more air internally and their insides would be hollower

4. well, what happens when the wasps start taking over?

11. right because a normal immune system prevents a lot of infections from affecting people but aids patients don't have that ability

12. FALSE. a person with O is an international donor. a person with AB is an international recipient.
Reply:1) d -- it is about the bones in their hips!!

2) don't get the question

3) never studied bird anatomy, sorry

4) chnages in biodiversity as a long term effect

that only scale inscets are eaten etc...

5) false - very common ones - like colds!

6) true - i am AB!

2. I don't like any of these! Analogies just suck.

3. The record for running a mile might be less time, with those air sacs. Having these might increase the efficiency with which oxygen could get to the muscles, would would increase the aerobic efficiency of the muscles. The muscles would complete aerobic respiration, leading to less production of lactic acid, which would mean less fatigue.

4.

a) Would the parasitic wasp feed on something other than the scale insects? Would it become a pest in its own right? What if a native bird ate the parasitic wasp... and the wasp was poisonous to it?

b) What of its nesting habits? If the wasp chews up houses to make paper for its nests, that would not be good!

11. True

12. False.

Exticnt killer whale.?

I saw this b-w picture once in this book, about supposedly

pictures taken from rare animals that were believed extinct,

but yet washed on shores from time to time.

It's about this killer whale wich had a pointy nose, but unlike a shark. It was streamlined, and washed upon the shore of a beach.

This whale had teeth and was supposed to be some sort of killer-whale (not a shark nor an orca)

Anyone got this picture, or knows the name of this animal?

It did not have a sharks fin, it did have teeth like a shark gong all the way from side to side unliek a normal whale.

Exticnt killer whale.?
Killer whale but with a pointy nose sounds like a beaked whale to me, but not sure exactly which species you refer to.

The northern bottle-nosed whale which died after being stranded up the Thames last year was a type of beaked whale.

Beaked whales, orcas and dolphins are all related species of toothed whales.

A google image search shows various examples of these

Is this the image you saw?

Similar in appearance to an ichthyosaur.
Reply:Looks like another badly decayed specimen of whale shark washed up-they're always doin' that!. Apparently due to preferential decomposition along the underside of the fish. In extreme cases leaves a long thin section up to the head, giving rise to speculation about long necked plesiosaurs still existing.

Interpret jpaulaguna's dream..?

i dreamt of my family purchasing a big shark, we let it swim freely on our dining area which in that case has a shalow water enough for the creature to swam to and for the people to walk over. The shark on my dream is big and has huge teeth. Our family dog went to the kitchen to look for food when suddenly he was bitten by the shark, me and my father try to untangle the teeth of the shark onto the dogs body, it was successful but the dog was left wounded. During the fight, the family dog let out loud barks like pleeding for help. during the comotion, my cat suit, a mother of 3 kittens jump out from the door unto the scene and it was the one bitten by the shark. the 3 kittens went to the rescue but unfortunately bitten too. the cats were badly hurt and i cried for help. i can even see my "real self" lying in bed, shouting and making noises just to get attention from my father, who by then was sleeping on the other room. I was afraid and was shouting all the time.

Interpret jpaulaguna's dream..?
It seems like you will be going through something that overwhelms you and your family. You feel helpless. No one can help you.
Reply:Wow. I don't know anything about your life, but it sure sounds like you believe something/someone (more than one) innocent is being really threatened by something in your home that is too big and dangerous to handle, and you don't feel protected by your father who you want to protect you. What an overwhelming dream. Can you talk to your father about what your needs are?

If God made us, how come we get toothache?

I mean, if intelligent design is true, then it doesn't seem very intelligent to make people so sensitive in non-essential parts of their body, like their teeth and under their nails...and leave vital parts like their brain without sensation. Wouldn't it be more intelligent to give us teeth like sharks, that grow after the old ones fall out, rather than giving us only two sets?

And if evolution is true, how come we still only get two sets of teeth, and painful ones at that, after all those centuries of the survival of the fittest? What on earth is the evolutionary advantage conferred by toothache? I mean I can understand why your finger feels pain--so you won't leave it in the fire or whatever. But your teeth?

Maybe they're both wrong--the theists and the evolutionists-- and it was aliens who started the whole thing (ones with a perverted sense of humor perhaps...)

If God made us, how come we get toothache?
A toothache is one of the many signs that we are living too long. All this 'science' (he said, making quotation marks in the air) has allowed us to live for so long, and look at the problems it creates! (hunger, pollution, bad drivers, blue hair, etc.)

All kids should be taught Intelligent Design and not evolution. This will teach them that science is wrong, and evidence is NOT to be believed.

Then in about 20 years, when there are more people and especially more old people, but there are no scientitsts to figure how to solve the problems, the human race will implode and the average lifepsan will decrease significantly, and two sets of teeth will be plenty!

At this time a shark-human hybrid species will take over, because they have unlimited teeth!

I can't wait!
Reply:LOL! you are so silly!

Reply:In the beginning we were created perfectly by God but then sin came into the world thru man's choice and changed what was perfect with disease, sickness and ill health.

You can thank your toothache on original sin.
Reply:we already have a bunch of problems %26amp; the last thing a man needs is claws like a tiger or teeth like a shark.

Reply:So we can look forward to heaven and learn to depend on God and not on yourselves.
Reply:Well, evolution is a process... no-one's claiming that it's reached the pinnacle yet, and there are elements of the body that don't confer any advantage - the appendix and the vestigial tail, to name but two.

But the evolutionary advantage of toothache is the same as the evolutionary advantage of any other kind of pain - to warn us that the body's in danger.
Reply:Because if there is no suffering in the world, then there is no joy in the world. How can you enjoy life if there are only comfortable things? Sin is the reason for suffering, but it is also the source of many conversions to Christianity and seeking of Christ.
Reply:gods made human and animals, god gives every animal an advantage that others don't have.we human has the most advantage in the world.I think that god creates us perfect,we have weakness and we are also strong. If god give us too much we would feel too superior to every other substances on earth.
Reply:WOW! Aliens made us! OK, so if you believe that god made us, then you also know that god created many other animals, and each of them received a unique characteristic. Humans weren't made to be all powerful and all, we have some bad qualities in us and some good ones. I mean if god rele wanted us to be like the supreme ones he could have given us a shell like a turtle so we'd never get hurt and all, but that didn't happen cause we got smart brains (at least some of us, jk lol), hearing, eyes and many other millions of things that he didn't give other animals.

And if you believe in evolution, some believe that we used to have two sets of teeth, but since we didn't need them anymore (they weren't getting worn out by plant eating and other reasons) we evolved to have only one set of teeth. And teeth aren't painful, unless you don't take care of them. Maybe the fact that you're having a toothache alerts you that you have a very unhealthy diet and you need to stop eating the sugars. Our teeth are sensitive because they tell you if something's gonna burn your tongue or give you a brain freeze and you rele don't want that.

Anyways aliens it is for you.
Reply:God created you in His Image. But, the rest is on you!! God also gave us "Free-Will" to do or not do what He commands us to do or not do. Such as brushing your teeth!! Or making sure to get your 6 month check-ups with the dentists!! Or to make sure you dont stick those nail cleaners up too far into your nail. Do You understand now? I surely do hope so, becuase if God did everything for us, we'd all be "Robotic" and what kind of fun would that be for us?!!! Not fun at all, so this is why we do feel Pain, because Eve ate the apple, and so God in turn told her she would now begin a lifetime of feeling pain in labor, and that they both had to feel shame, and be casted out of the Beautiful "Garden of Eden!!" For listening to the serpent!! And the serpent had to crawl around on his belly all of the days of his life, for listening to Satan, God told the serpent, this was his punishment!! So, apparently the snake once had legs!! Now they dont because of what they did by allowing Satan to work through them in the Garden of Eden, and convincing her to eat the forbidden apple!!! So, the rest is history!!! Pain and all, sorry to say, but it is written in the Bible!! Try to read one, but first ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit, so you can better understand it all, I had to do this, and God answered my prayers, and now I totally understand the bible much better than before I asked Him to fill me with the Holy Spirit!! Pretty cool, hoh!! Sorry you have pain in your tooth. Pray about it, and ask God to make it either affordable for you to see a dentist, or to take the pain away for you!! Or both!! Good Luck, and Smile!!!
Reply:First of all,GOD IS REAL!!! he did make us and the world, you should never doubt that. he made us perfect, satin is the reason for all the bad things on earth.he made things a certain way,and has a plan for everyone and everything. you should always trust that god is perfect, and that he would never hurt us. he died on a cross and rose again for us ,and that shows a lot of love!!! God is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is the one and ONLY king. hes the ONE person we can always count on.all you need to do is ask him to #1ask him into your heart, and #2ask him to forgive us of our sins, and that's it!! that's how loving god is!!
Reply:perhaps it allready is here and the evidence is just wrong for evolution. Imagine how much buisness is created over teeth.
Reply:lol man your crazy
Reply:God did not make us to feel pain. Wait let me finish god made Adam and Eve perfect until Satan came around and tempted Adam and Eve so they would eat from the forbidden tree and after they ate the fruit their mind was altered to think like we think today. They realized they were naked and were ashamed of it they were trying to hide so god would not see them but god sees everyone so it wasn't very hard for god to find Adam and Eve so he knew were they both were but he decided to play dumb and pretend that he did not know were they were calling out for them and you know like when you play hide and seek and somehow you know were the other person hid and you play dumb walking around that area calling out for them and acting like you donut know were they are anyway after a couple minuets when they failed to answer god cast them out from the trees and asked "did you eat from that tree I said not to eat from" even though he knew the answer he asked them any way to see what they said and to gods surprise they lied and said no that they had not eaten from the forbidden tree god asked again to make sure he had heard right and after he mad sure he told Adam and eve the truth was that he knew that they had eaten from the tree and then Adam and eve burst into tears admitting to their wrong doing and explained that Satan had tempted them to eat from the tree and Satan and god have been fighting ever since.
Reply:Wrong section. This is a religious question.

In the science section, intelligent design has no currency
Reply:It must be Sunday and for some reason everyone was "inspired" to go to Yahoo biology questions to answer with religious vigor.

Adam and Eve blamed in this day and age is hard to accept. But, here it is on Yahoo Answers in black and white.:(:(
Reply:Just think about evolution for one second. Now we have 2 sets of teeth, the second set are supposed to last us for a good, say 50 years to be pessimistic. Now before the age of 50 we are expected to have had kids and therefore passed on our genetic material and any advantages it may have acquired due to chance mutations. Where is the problem then with having only 2 sets? Now if we only had 1 set that fell out at the age of 1 then we'd be in trouble! Tooth ache has evolved to tell us there is a problem with our teeth, we either need to take care of them, or lose the tooth before an infection spreads throughout our body and killing us. Simple. So a tooth ache, or 2 sets of teeth poses no problem to the theory of evolution. We know that the second permanent teeth last long enough so that we are able to reproduce before they fall out and we can no longer chew food.

Creationism however, well thats just a joke, not even worth the time arguing against.
Reply:First of all scientist just like to make excuses and come up with theories that prove things. We didn't evolve from sharks and what confuses me is that we apparently evolved from apes but if we came from apes why do apes still exist. And our closest DNA relative in the rat. Maybe you should brush you teeth more often. God helps those who help themselves.

Reply:Actually toothaches are mostly a human creation. People who do not consume artifical sugars rarely have substantial tooth decay until late in life. Since modern medicine--a human invention--has prolonged our lifespans, we are faced with the problem of our teeth wearing out before the rest of us.

As for why we don't have shark teeth, we are omnivorous creatures. Our various teeth are like a toolkit of cutting instruments--incisors for biting, canines for ripping and tearing, and molars for grinding. The combination of tools in our mouth give us the ability to consume any kind of food, as opposed to specfically meat.
Reply:After God made all of the animals and humans, he made the worm (the lowest form of life). The worm was unhappy. He said, "Every other animal has something, but what do I have?" God heard the worm and said, "You can have the fig." The worm said, "What do I want with a fig? I want a tooth! Let me suck on the human's tooth to get my nourishment." So God let the pitiful worm have his tooth, and that is why we have toothache.
Reply:Remember when we, humans were first made. We were perfect beings, but when Eve, then Adam sinned they lost perfection for us. Now in case you hadn't noticed, we suffer much more than a lousy toothache. We suffer with incurable diseases and viruses such as cancer, arthritus, aids, herpes, dwarfism, gochez disease, blood disease.

After Armageddon, though you should know this, all of illnesses and pain and suffering will be removed from mankind after the 90% of the world's population evil ones are destroyed in the world, and the last sin to be removed from mankind is death.

You appear to have a lot more studying to do if all you can come up with is a toothache that ails mankind. Take a look around you. Cancer is one of the most harshest ailments to mankind. You need to do your own personal study and private prayers to God in order that you come to attain accurate knowledge.

Good luck.
Reply:Usually, if you brush well twice a day, your teeth won't hurt. Hurt teeth are caused by YOUR neglect, not God...
Reply:well...you get toothaches because you don't brush your teeth
Reply:If you read your Bible you would know that some people use to live past 900 years. They may have had several sets of teeth. And we do have two now. The smaller set comes out, the new, larger one comes in.

Back before sugar was so popular people did not have all these teeth problems either. They ate what they could grow. Even when I was a kid there was still a country store I could go to and buy a pickle from a barrel. Boy were they good! And the size of a large cucumber, not a small one.

We are what we make ourselves. Don't blame God if you eat too much candy. He did not tell you to.
Reply:Never wonder why there's pain, or sadness in your day.

You will never know the good, unless you've been that way.

God didn't make you. You are a piece of the whole that is Deity. We all create what we are in relevance to what we are not, and experience is the reason for it all.

God created man, and gave him a perfect world and life, when man fell from grace with God he was left to life with the pains and suffering of life, God created a plan but did not guide our every action.

God sent someone to create the toothbrush, dental floss. and tooth paste, but do all people use them???

Incidentally teeth are essential parts of the body as eating is difficult without them and people with poor dental hygeine have other health problems associted with that.

The brain is encased in bone it is the only organ on the body this has occured with, it is protected by layers of protection and cushioned in fluid it does not need sensory nerves as they would not have access to anything to sense. However, other structure in the brain do feel pain thus headaches, sinus pain etc..

Your logic is flawed
Reply:The reason we have disease and aches and pains, is because of sin...when Adam and Eve sinned, they brought pain and suffering into the world. In the Garden of Eden they were perfect but by disobeying God and trying to make their own decisions, they listened to Satan instead of God. People still do that today, don't they?

..God gave them free will, so don't blame God that they chose the wrong path. If they had followed God and obeyed him, we wouldn't be in this mess we are in....

Song by Sinatra?
Mack the Knife

Oh, the shark has pretty teeth dear

And he shows em, pearly white

Just a jack knife has macheath dear

And he keeps it way out of sight

When that shark bites with his teeth, dear

Scarlet billows begin to spread

Fancy gloves though has macheath dear

So theres never, never a trace of red

On the sidewalk, one sunday morning

Lies a body, oozin life

Someones sneaking round the corner

Could that someone be mack the knife

From a tugboat, on the river going slow

A cement bag is dropping on down

You know that cement is for the weight dear

You can make a large bet mackies back in town

My man louis miller, he split the scene babe

After drawing out all the bread from his stash

Now macheath spends like a sailor

Do you suppose our boy, hes done something rash

Swinging hard, jack, I now I cant lose

When I tell you, all about mack the knife babe

Its an offer, you can never refuse

We got patrick williams, bill miller playing that piano

And this great big band, bringing up the rear

All the band cats, in this band now

Oh sookie taudry, jenny diver, polly peachum, old miss lulu brown

Hey the line forms, on the right dear

Now that macheaths back in town

Saltwater sharks?

does anyone know what type of sharks its legal to own in new york and buy in new york without a permit or anything and without having some degree in science because i was looking at the port jackson shark and the banded cat shark but i would rather have a shark that has sharp teeth and actually eats real shark food like a dog fish or something because im going to get a huge tank soon and i want to get a shark but not a big one like a great white or anything just something 3-5 feet or less. thanks

Saltwater sharks?
Good luck, you are talking about a huge tank. In reality you are talking about a tank of thousands of gallons. Great whites cannot be kept in captivity by anyone. Dogfish maybe a couple in a 1000 gallon tank.
Reply:By huge tank what do you mean Cause many sharks need 1000+ gallons per shark and not the ones that get bigger than two feet. And also if you have no idea about saltwater tanks and have never had one before do not get a shark. Only experienced aquarists should handle sharks. For a shark tank set up your thinking in the 2500-8000g range and i doubt you are willing to spend that much money on something you have no experience with. If you want a shark start out with freshwater ones and get like a 90gallon tank. Seriously you dont know what your getting into.
Reply:that would be so cool. there was a store in Calgary which sold Nurse sharks, about 3 feet long. they had a huge tank with maybe 5 sharks in it. feeding time was really popular, but i never went there for it. Dogfish are very common on the west coast . Bull sharks can live in fresh water...... some travel away up the Mississippi river,.
Reply:I don't know the legalities behind shark ownership in NY, but I do know that keeping and maintaining sharks is no small feat.

I think the smallest shark you could keep in captivity would be the bamboo/cat shark (grows to 3 ft) and it would still need a bare minimum of 200 gallons.

Can anyone explain this strange dream to me? Please take the time to read.?

I was in a boat on a twitight sea alone. I saw a pretty woman swim up to the side of the boat, and I could see she was troubled by the look of fear in hers eyes. She said nothing, nor did I as she reached up for me. I took her by both arms and tried to pull her out of the water, but it was like she was stuck in quicksand. Then a huge shark's head appeared out of the black water like a sinister apparition approaching her. I looked at it and she looked at it then looked back at me. Her fear turned to extreme terror but still she was silent as the sharks white triangular teeth sunk into her sides and pulled her under. The worst part for me was her eyes. One eye dissapeared and the other grew to the size of a fist as the shark folded her up in its mouth in a bizzare dreamy fashion. There was never a sound and I was frozen as her one huge eye stared at me, expressionless from inside the sharks mouth.

That's it. Thanks

Can anyone explain this strange dream to me? Please take the time to read.?
usually in our dreams we create other people that represent ourselves because it is safer and it offers an external view of ourselves. if so, you may be feeling overwhelmed or consumed by something outside of your control. the terror in the eyes may reflect your fear, and the silence may indicate your inability to explain (or understand) the source of the fear. not moving toward safety may represent the paralysis you feel in your current situation. are you stuck in a bad job or relationship? do you have teenager that you cannot communicate with? are your parents aging and you don't know what to do for them? do you have debts/expenses that you feel you can never pay? these things may be the shark that you cannot escape. if you have a similar dream again, examine the shark (or any type of threat) very closely. oddly enough, you can make yourself do this in a dream, if you think about it while awake. you might consider why you put yourself in a boat instead of on an island, or a bridge, or anywhere else. remember, we choose every detail we put in our dreams, and everything has significance, or they would not be included in the dream. there are no outside influences that affect our dreams like there are in our waking life. we are the sole creators and owners of our dreams.
Reply:yes yes...i see...it seems you need glasses...and maybe a martini...and something to read!
Reply:maybe u feel thats someone u care abot is in trouble and they r scared but for some reason they chose to accept their fate rather then accept your help
Reply:A bad, bad man is after this woman. She has been abused by him, but is afraid to defend herself or leave.

Reply:You have probably guilty of doing something you wouldn't want to be caught doing, Now you are consumed with the idea that someone could have seen you and you don't want to talk about it. to anyone. Maybe you should.
Reply:Do you feel all alone in any part of your life? Are there any mounting problems you feel are going to swallow you up? If so maybe then maybe that is the source of your dream. If not then examine your life and sitituations closely maybe your sub-conciece is trying to tell you something.Of course it coould just be a freaky scary dream.
Reply:I'm going to go out on a limb an say that you are single. And you were hoping to be coupled earlier in life than you are now. You refer to twilight - meaning thaat subconciously your mind considers something toward teh end of a day - as dawn signifies a begining. Perhaps you have just ended a relationship, or are wondering why you don't have one that is more meaningful. The boat signals travel - I think you are currently away from "home".
Reply:Fear that a shark is going to not entirely finish it's meal. Did you have an overbearing mom?
Reply:Well, apparently you don't think of yourself as a knight in shining armor. You try to be helpful, but you don't feel you do enough, and whatever you do do, apparently it isn't enough to make a difference in life, because the evil in the world as you see it, is too much for you to be able to win against.
Reply:Well, since the person you saw in ur dreams was a stranger to u then it suggests u to help everyone who approach u and build trust in him/her to ensure that u will help them when they need u.
Reply:I think you must had ditched any of your close friend who need your help seriously. This makes your heart having a feel of guilt which you does not recognise by yourself but your heart does.
Reply:I wish I could have dreams like that. Anyways, have you ever felt like you needed to help someone or be with someone who was torn away from you?
Reply:DREAMS ARE THE FRAME OF OUR UNCONCIOUS MIND . THERE IS SOMETHING STRIKING U . IT MUST BE RELATED TO YOUR PAST . I ADVICE U TO VISIT A PSYCHOLOGIST HE CAN HELP U BETTER.
Reply:Without knowing enough about you I would say you whitnessed abuse to someone close to you and were to young to help. The dreams symbolises regret, he big eye is yours and has become a part of the shark in your mind.
Reply:I think I know the problem. You fell asleep on the couch while you were watching TV in dim light and after you fell asleep there was Jaws on TV and you sensed the entire movie and your brain has formed it the way it wanted to but you don't know it since you were asleep at that time.

The local bike shop said that when you replace your chain you should also replace your cassette? True or False

However, after inspecting the cassette, none of the teeth are shark finned.

The local bike shop said that when you replace your chain you should also replace your cassette? True or False
Yes, they are correct.

The chain and cassette wear at the same rate.

If you replace your chain, you should replace the cassette. If not, your chain will skp over the worn gears of the cassette. Also, you'll wear your chain down faster too!

The other way around is more acceptable, but still not recommended. If you replace your cassette with an older chain, it won't skip, but the rate of wear on the chain will increase.

Until you can pick up a cassette at the level of quality you want, just ride the old chain...

I'm in the same boat right now. Chain is worn, saving for the cassette I want.

Good luck
Reply:What? I worked in a bike shop too.

You don't have to change the cassette _all the time_ when you change the chain. ONLY when the chain is super worn, and a new chain skips on the old cassette. Report It

Reply:Definitely true, unless you replace your chain every 100 miles, then you'll still have to replace the cassette with every 3rd to 5th chain, depending on what conditions you ride in.
Reply:the theory is that they wear in together. i suppose if you have more money than you know what to do with you could. for me, i just do the chain until i notice that the chain alone doesnt solve the issue. your chain wears quickly, not so for your cogs. it seems an unneeded expense to me. i have gone through three chains now to one cogset.
Reply:MadMonkey is exactly right. The chain and the sprockets wear down together and keep meshing perfectly, but if you change one and not the other, you will usually find the chain slipping over the sprockets and not engaging properly, especially if they've had a lot of use. This slipping can be pretty unpleasant if it happens when you're putting all your weight into the pedals in a climb or a sprint, for example.

Unfortunately, it won't help to inspect the sprockets. You won't notice anything. The wear is not that obvious.

Of course, as he also said, you could save yourself some expense, by changing the chain more frequently. If there hasn't been much wear, a new chain should still mesh well enough with the sprockets. You might get away with a few chain changes before you have to change the cassette too. Test the set-up carefully with the new chain every time though, and as soon as there's some slippage, get a new cassette. This should save some expense on cassettes.

The other option is to use the chain and cassette until one of them is falling to bits, then change both.
Reply:It depends on how worn the chain is. This is what I do:

I have a tool to check chain stretch. When the chain is 50% worn out I install a new chain and it will not skip. The second chain will quickly wear in to match the cassette. I will use that chain until it is 75% to 100% worn out or untill it shifts poorly. At that point the cassette is worn out and the chain rings may be worn out also and the entire drive must ususally be replaced.

That way I buy less cassettes. If I wait until the chain is worn to 75% or more it will usually skip and I will need a new cassette and chain. And, the longer you let the chain wear, the more wear you put on your chainrings. Eventually all the cogs will wear in to match the chain wear.

If you want to keep that 'new' shifting feel, you must replace everything at once.
Reply:FALSE. If you have money to blow do it - it's the best. Seasoned riders that know a little about taking care of there machine will replace about 3 chains to one cassette.

How often to replace a chain? If you are talking road bikes and ride on smoot, dry roads 1500 to 3000 miles. If you ride very hard, sprinting, hill climbing etc. and weigh 200 lbs. 1500, if you are light and ride easy 3000. If you never clean and lube your gears and chain even sooner.

If your mountain biking (I mean dirt, dust and mud) and maintain your bike well (clean and lube often) 1000 to 2000 miles.

I've been riding and racing many years and a lot of guys go longer than what I recomended. I forgot to mention I was a bike mechanic for 5 years as well. A few anal guys get a new chain every spring even with 500 miles or so on em. I don't know anyone who replaces their cassettes with every chain.

Bottom line you have $$$ buy a new bike every year that's even better! Seriously, a cassette is probably good for 10,000 if well cared for and not raced with by a heavy strong rider.
Reply:You don't say what kind of riding this is. Is it road or MTB? Do you ride in dry weather typically or do you go out rain or shine? It really depends on the type of riding you are doing.

You typically DON'T have to replace your cassette with every chain replacement, especially if you swap out your chain in the 1500-2000 mile range.

You SHOULD inspect your cassette for wear and replace it if it is showing signs of age. I have 9-spd cassettes that have over 30000 miles on them with (10K miles/season of racing/riding) that have gone through a few chain swaps.

If you inspect your equipment and clean it after a rough ride in dirt/mud/rain, you will get maximum life expectancy out of it.

Replacing integrated bottom bracket and re-facing the shell?

I want to replace my integrated bottom bracket and I'd like to know if the assumption I'm working under is valid. My bike currently has a Giga X Pipe on it and I want to replace it with the same. I've had the bike for about 2 years and abused it quite a bit (while still taking care of it, of course). My instinct is telling me that I do not need to re-face the shell because it has already been faced to match the parallelism of the bearing cups. Can I get away with just buying another Giga Pipe BB and installing it straight away? The only reason I can see to re-face the shell is if both the shell and cups have deformed simultaneously during these past 2 years, much like how gear teeth will shark fin to match a worn chain.

Replacing integrated bottom bracket and re-facing the shell?
I think you really have a handle on this. You answered your own question. Check it before proceeding, but you probably can just replace the BB with just a check.
Reply:Sounds good.

I wanna be a modelll!!!!!?
It's nice to consider being something and trying your hard to reach your goal.. but you should start considering another career. Being a model isn't as easy as you think and it doesn't depend entirely on appearances. So keep your options open and maybe there is something else that you want to be.
Reply:you sound like you are not model type. I am sure there are other things you can do or you can get into the photography business instead of being the model.
Reply:You are a little on the short side if you are really 4"3, but that's fine for commercial modeling. Curly springy hair is good as long as it can be straightened and is managable. A huge mouth makes for pouty lips, which is good, but if you don't have huge lips, it's nothing that a lip plumper from Lip Fusion can't fix. You can find them at Sephora. Shark cut teeth? As long as you can get dental surgery or braces, it's fine. A flat nose is okay as long as they are looking for that type of nose. If you are really serious about modeling, start with Barbizon Modeling and Acting Schools. They teach you exactly what you need to know to get a modeling job.
Reply:not everyone can become a model.

p.p.s. u can still model no matter what height. like u can appear in catalogs and stuff... the 5'6" or whatever height limit is more like for the runway type models.
Reply:You have to be AT LEAST 5"8 to be a model. :S They usually like even taller. 4"3 is super short I don't think you can even do commerical modeling at 4"3.

You have to be atleast 5"7 to be a model.

Will this earring stretch my hole?

I made an earring out of a shark's tooth, a small piece of wire to make a loop, a post, and one small metallic bead (smaller than a BB) for decoration. Is this heavy enough to stretch my earlobe?

Will this earring stretch my hole?
The general rule of thumb that I go by is: If you can feel the earrings weighing down even a little bit, then yes it will stretch the earlobe.

How much are you watches and jewelry worth?

Was listening to some guy on the radio talking about all the bling he owned. I have one watch that I bought about 15 years ago for $75. Also a feather earring and a shark's tooth earring from back in the day that were about $5 each. So maybe $85 minus depreciation. $5 at a garage sale on a lucky day. Too funny.

How much are you watches and jewelry worth?
I was blessed to inherit my mothers jewelry. It is worth thousands and much more in memories. I have a garnet that is the size of a small cat that has a set of matching earrings... the earrings weigh about a ton each and would make beautiful rings in their own right....they are about the size of your thumbnail; rounded. They are very pretty. Plus they are set in a scrolled Arabic gold. She also left me a pearl princess style ring that is to die for. My watches aren't worth so much, they just match everything I wear. I have a lot of watches! I have a couple of shark's tooth necklaces...I found the teeth myself and some crystal...just fun stuff...Too funny. Nana

Is a deity without a doctrine like a gun without bullets?

…a shark without teeth or a tiger without claws? You know, the deity might exist no matter what but it is the doctrine that man creates that gives the deity his ‘personality,’ right?

Is a deity without a doctrine like a gun without bullets?
Well, if we look around, we see that deities that HAVE a doctrine, are usually at the forefront of firing bullets at people of a different deity who has a different doctrine.

So if there was a deity WITHOUT a doctrine, then yeah, I guess the bullets wouldn't fly.

It's only until you encumber your imagined deity with imagined sayings and mandates that he becomes dangerous.

What do sharks and toothed whales have in common?

list them. thanx !!

What do sharks and toothed whales have in common?
Well, the obvious first thing is...teeth!

But wait! There's more!

Both have torpedo-shaped bodies (an evolutionary adaptation that enables them to move quickly through water).

Both are predators.

Um...that's about it. I could also tell you a bunch of things about them that are different...but you didn't ask that.
Reply:they are man eatters.
Reply:Both toothed whales and sharks are vertebrates, and live in the water.

Sleek body shapes, with similar shaped fins and tails for swimming easily through a dense medium, water.

Both are predators, with sharp teeth for catching prey and tearing their prey into pieces (not for chewing).

Why are sharks and toothed whales an example of convergent evolution?

explain.

thanx !

Why are sharks and toothed whales an example of convergent evolution?
Sharks and toothed whales come from different evolutionary origins, but they have evolved similar features because they have similar needs within their environments. Some of their similar features include:

.. stream-lined torpedo-like body shape

.. flippers/fins

.. similar tails for propelling themselves forward, though the sharks wave their tail fins side to side and whales wave their tail fins up and down
Reply:Convergent evolution occurs when two species that are not closely related to each other (specifically, they do not have a common ancestor that shows the characteristic in question) develop similar shapes or functions. This generally occurs because they live in the same or similar environments, and solve the same problems the same way. In this case, both sharkes and toothed whales have very streamlined bodies, to make swimming through the relatively dense medium (water) easier.

Does anyone no anything about this disease?

okay this is a disease that affects your feet but not your teeth so dont get it mixed up

shark Marie tooth disease

Does anyone no anything about this disease?
I believe you're asking about: Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease???

If so, click on the link and read.......

http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/he...
Reply:the correct spelling is Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease.

It is actually many different types of Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy.

Charcot, Marie and Tooth are the people that described it in 1886. Causes loss of muscle mass, and sensation more in the feet but can also effect the hands in advanced disease. Different genes mutation that cause the different types of this disease lead to damage of the nerve fiber, either because the schawn cells (insulating the neuronal axon) dies or the axon itself dies.

Symptoms usually begin in late childhood or early adulthood.

- foot drop ( early )

- hammer toe, (toes are always curled)

- Wasting of muscle in the lower parts of the legs ("stork leg" or "inverted bottle")

- Weakness in the hands and forearms (later in life )

- Breathing, hearing, vision, neck and shoulder muscles.

- Scoliosis is common.

- Hip sockets can be malformed.

- GI problems

- chewing, swallowing, and speaking (as vocal cords atrophy).

- pregnancy and extreme emotional states can make it worse

Diagnosis: EMG studies and biopsy

No real cure is available at this time, but surgery can help compensate for the joint deformities.
Reply:I believe you mean...Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is a group of progressive disorders that affect the peripheral nerves. Peripheral nerves connect the brain and spinal cord to muscles as well as sensory cells that detect sensations such as touch, pain, heat, and sound.

Symptoms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease usually begin in adolescence or early adulthood, but onset may occur anytime from early childhood to mid-adulthood. Symptoms vary in severity. Some people never realize they have the disorder, but most have a moderate amount of physical disability, and a small percentage of people experience severe weakness. Many people with this disorder lead active lives and have normal life expectancies.

Typically, the earliest symptoms involve muscle weakness in the feet, which can cause foot abnormalities such as high arches (pes cavus) or curled toes (hammer toes). It may become difficult to hold up the foot or to walk on the heel of the foot. These difficulties may cause a higher than normal step (or gait) and can increase the chance of ankle injuries and tripping. As the disease progresses, muscles in the lower legs usually weaken, but leg and foot problems rarely require the use of a wheelchair.

Later symptoms may include muscle weakness in the hands, causing difficulty with daily activities such as writing, fastening buttons, and turning doorknobs. Because signals to sensory cells can be disrupted in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, people with this disorder may also notice some numbness, feel pain in the feet and lower legs, or experience a decreased sensitivity to heat and cold. In rare cases, sensory loss can include gradual hearing impairment and deafness.

Different types of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease can be distinguished by the abnormality that disrupts nerve function and by the genetic cause. Type X Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is caused by mutations in a gene on the X chromosome, one of the two sex chromosomes. Type 1 Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is characterized by abnormalities in myelin, the protective substance that covers nerve cells. Type 2 Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is characterized by abnormalities in the fiber, or axon, that extends from a nerve cell and transmits nerve impulses. In intermediate forms of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, abnormalities occur in axons and myelin. Type 4 Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease affects either the axon or myelin. Types 1, 2, 4, and intermediate forms are further categorized by subtypes (such as 1A, 2A, 4A). Subtypes are distinguished by the specific gene that is altered.

No universal system is used to classify types of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and sometimes other names are used to describe this disorder. For example, Roussy-Levy syndrome is a form of type 1 Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (type 1B). Dejerine-Sottas syndrome is a severe, early childhood form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease that may be type 1 or type 4 (depending on the specific gene that is altered).

Leeches:

-invertebrate

-live in wet terrestrial habitats

Lampreys:

-vertebrates

-aquatic

Chondrichthyes is sharks, skates, rays and chimeras.

Shark teeth are modified placoid scales (skin).

Ray's skeleton is made of cartilage (hence chondrichthyes)

Not sure what the next one is getting at (worded wierd)

Largest shark in the world is whale shark - filter feeds primarily on planktonic organisms.

Fin that protrudes from water is dorsal fin

Caudal fin is on the tail (hence caudal) - helps steer

Sharks' five senses are sight, chemoreception, touch, taste, electroreception.

Think the next question is wrong - should be compare/contrast rays and skates right?

Lobe finned fishes evolved into limbed animals by having the ability to breathe air and to move across the land from one drying up water source to another. Eventually became able to utilize habitat not current inhabited.

Largest class of vertebrates is osteichthyes (bony fishes)

Don't know..need to look that up.

Countercurrent exchange allows for complete oxygenation of blood.

Salmon are Anadromous

Smallest vertebrate is a ray finned fish in osteichthyes

Operculum covers the gills

Hope that helps... if you get it before your work is due.

What living animal of any kind has the strongest bite?

Including fishes, sharks, toothed whales, big cats, living today.

What living animal of any kind has the strongest bite?
Purely in terms of pounds exerted per square-inch, I believe the strongest bite recorded of any living animal belongs to the Great White Shark.

The damage inflicted by a bite is not just a matter of jaw strength, however. The shape of the teeth, placement, leverage exerted by position, and a host of other factors come into the equation as well.

A Great White's teeth are admirably suited for slicing huge chunks of flesh out of their victim - but are not so good at crushing (like a hyena or parrotfish), or precise application of piercing damage to a vital part of the anatomy (like cats).
Reply:Orca, or Killer Whales, aren't really built for bite strength. Their teeth are designed more to hold slippery prey like salmon and seals, and keep them from gettting away - after which they are pretty much swallowed whole. Report It

Reply:Saltwater crocodile has the strongest bite! Report It

Reply:alligator
Reply:If you're looking at jaw pressure and not just teeth then my guess would be the hippo.
Reply:Pitbull dog
Reply:sharks

Reply:THE SNAPPIN TURTLE!!!
Reply:An analysis of mammalian bite force, corrected for body size, shows that the devil has the strongest bite of any living mammal. The power of the jaw is in part due to its comparatively large head. A Tasmanian Devil also has one set of teeth that grows slowly throughout its life.
Reply:well man

i guess your choice is between the hyena hippo and alligator
Reply:top animals that have a strong bit are:

snapping turtle

hyena

crocodile
Reply:A test was done on one of the wild life programs on the tele .The guy was American and he tested everything you can thing of ,and the crocodile had the strongest bite
Reply:As for pound per square inch of strength in the jaw, the number one creature with the most powerful jaw/muscles is the white shark. It is followed up by the pit bull.
Reply:I thought the Hyena had the strongest bite force in the animal kingdom, but upon further research I found that the correct answer is the American Alligator. Check out the article below for my source.
Reply:Im thinking its between the nile croc and a blue whale lol

Plant question

Tooth regrowth/regeneration?

Will it ever be possible to regrow our own teeth if we lose a tooth? Sharks are able to regrow new sets of teeth indefinitely. I read some articles on Yahoo that there are currently scientists researching this possibility with stem cell research. Have any of you heard anything about this future possibility? Wouldn't this be wonderful? I always wondered why God didn't give humans the same ability as sharks to regrow infinite numbers of teeth if the teeth are lost.

Tooth regrowth/regeneration?
Yes, stem cell research....
Reply:mmm, i don't know.

might i add, you have a great avatar :)
Reply:We DO regrow our teeth. We have baby teeth and adult teeth.

Did you not notice?
Reply:Because shark tooth regeneration is a result of evolution, and Christians don't believe in evolution so God left that out of humans.
